Tumshie McFadgen's Bid For Ultimate Bliss
"Has a feelgood factor that's hard to beat"

Without doubt this is one of my favourite shorts of the year so far... and I've seen a few. It's packed with humour and has a feelgood factor that's hard to beat, as well as being so cleverly shot that you feel it is actually longer than it is - in a good way.

The eponymous Tumshie is on the hunt for happiness and not just your run-of-the-mill enjoyment. No, he wants more, five times more, in fact, something to appeal to all his senses. In typical male fashion he makes a list of the things he needs to have, including the smell of Scalectrix, the taste of a nicely poured pint of Caley 80 and the sight of... well, to tell you would spoil it.

Derek Riddell is excellent as Tumshie, while well kent Scots actor Clive Russell provides a solid bedrock with his excellent narration. The colour palette used by writer/director Simon Hynd is as wild as the premise and suits it perfectly.

May we see a lot more from this man and soon.
